Thu, 21 May 2009 10:57 Lutterworth: Draft Town Plan Lutterworth Town Council would be keen to receive comments from the public in relation to this draft Town Plan and we ask that they be forwarded to the Town Council Office by any of the below means by the end of June 2009. In writing: Lutterworth Town Council, Swiftway Centre, Central Avenue, Lutterworth, LE17 4NY Further copies of this Town Plan can be obtained from the Town Council’s website www.lutterworth.org.uk Mon, 18 May 2009 11:33 New Library for Lutterworth Plans are being submitted for a new library in Lutterworth. Leicestershire County Council is proposing to replace the existing library in Coventry Road with a new one in George Street. If planning permission is approved, the county council will lease George Street’s Wycliffe Peugeot showroom from its owners, the Richardson family, later this year. A sum of £90,000 has been earmarked to convert the building. During August, the business and all its employees would then relocate to the firm’s new 1.9 acre showroom site in Leicester Road, Rugby, which is just a 10 minute drive away. More » The library plans include: It will be the first library in the county to have a self service issue system The county council wants to replace the current library because it does not meet the growing needs of Lutterworth and the surrounding villages. Margaret Bellamy, Head of Library Services said: “ We have been looking for more than 10 years to find a way of improving the library facilities in Lutterworth to be able to provide the range of services that are enjoyed by library users in other parts of the County, through our investment of more than £8 million since 2003. "We are very pleased that we’ve been offered this site and are looking forward to welcoming current and new users into the library later in the year.” Malcolm Richardson, of the Richardson Brothers, said: "We are pleased to be able to help bring a new library to Lutterworth, while protecting jobs and looking after local customers from our new, much larger facilities in Rugby." The planning application will be considered by the County Council over the next few weeks and that process will include an opportunity for the public and other local authorities to comment on the proposed plans. « Less Thu, 30 Apr 2009 12:40 Town Council Office Re-location and Swiftway Centre Lutterworth Town Council has made some major decisions which it believes will enable it to better serve the community of Lutterworth. It has decided that it can best serve the town by having its offices in the Town Centre where it will have a more visible presence and be more accessible to residents, businesses and visitors to Lutterworth. The offices are currently located at the Swiftway Centre in the north of the town. To do its job for the Town, the Council believes that we need to be in a location where it is easy for people to see where we are and where we can be easily contacted. The Council will be looking for suitable premises in the centre with a frontage onto one of the main shopping streets. More » At the same time, the Council has reviewed the implications for the Swiftway Centre on Central Avenue where the offices are currently located. The Council currently has two premises, the Swiftway Centre and the Pavilion on the Recreation Ground and neither of these is fully utilized at present. The Council believes that the activities of many of the hirers currently using the Swiftway Centre can be re-located to the newer Pavilion building or, if not, to other hiring facilities in the town. The review concluded that it was not economical to continue to run the Swiftway Centre, taking into account the current running costs of the building and concerns over long term maintenance costs. The Council believes that the money that it would cost to keep the centre open could be put to better use in the town and the Council believes that if it sold the centre, the capital released would generate funds for better use in the town in the future. As a result the Council has decided to close the Swiftway Centre at the end of August 2009 and to put the site on the market which it believes makes good sense to local taxpayers. The Council is contacting the current users of the centre to advise them of the decision and to offer them help in finding other venues for their activities, either at the Pavilion or elsewhere using the register of venues that it already holds. In making the decision, the Council recognised that some of the users may need help with letting fees elsewhere and is prepared to consider help with grants where that is appropriate. The Council is confident that the groups that currently use the Centre will be able to find alternative locations for their activities. The Council believes that these are important decisions for the town and is sure that they would be of benefit to the local community because the Council can do a better job for the town by re-locating to the Town Centre and its decision concerning the Swiftway Centre will avoid unnecessary costs going forward and ensure that the Pavilion facility as well as other existing town venues are much more fully used. « Less Thu, 30 Apr 2009 12:38 Crime Alert Messgae 30/04/09 This is a message for all residents living in Harborough District from Harborough Police.
